Winning Streak Snapped as Flames Top Chops on Tuesday

November 18, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release

Thanks to three 1st period goals, the Quad City Flames took an early lead and never looked back in their first win of the season over the Iowa Chops by a 6-2 score at the Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday night. The Chops found themselves down after the first 20 minutes thanks to a power play goal, a shorthanded goal and an even-strength goal by the Flames, who peppered Iowa Chops goaltender David LeNeveu with 14 shots in the 1st period alone. The 2nd period saw the Iowa Chops score the only goal thanks to Petteri Wirtanen's shorthanded penalty shot goal that beat Flames goalie Leland Irving to the low blocker side for the first ever penalty shot goal in Iowa Chops history. The 3-1 deficit quickly grew for the Chops early in the 3rd period as another power play goal and even strength goal in the first six minutes of the period increased the Flames lead to 5-1. The Chops made it 5-2 on Drew Miller's 7th goal of the season with assists from TJ Trevelyan and Joakim Lindstrom, but all hope of a comeback was doused by the Flames as they killed off a two-minute 5 on 3 power play and scored once more to put the game out of reach at 6-2. The Flames outshot the Chops 27-18 for the game.
