Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The B-Sens (8-6-1-1, 18 pts.) took four divisional points in their busiest stretch of the season this past week, with wins over Bridgeport and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

TUESDAY, NOV. 11 @ BRIDGEPORT (4-3 W) (played @ Summerside, P.E.I.): The B-Sens battled back from a 3-1 third-period deficit with goals from Brendan Bell and Zack Smith to force overtime. The contest went to the shootout round, with Bell netting the lone goal for either team to secure two points for Binghamton. The B-Sens power-play unit proved to be the difference, as the team converted on three of si man advantages.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 12 @ BRIDGEPORT (6-2 L) (played @ St. John's, N.L.): The Sound Tigers scored four unanswered goals to hand the B-Sens a 6-2 loss. With winger Ryan Shannon recalled hours before game time, Ilya Zubov and Greg Mauldin provided the scoring for Binghamton. Mauldin's marker was his first of the season, while Brian Elliott allowed four goals on 13 shots before Jeff Glass replaced him in goal.

FRIDAY, NOV. 14 vs. WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (4-2 W): B-Sens captain Denis Hamel returned to the line-up after missing eight games with a knee injury and immediately made his presence felt. Hamel buried the game-winning goal, his first tally of the season, midway through the third period. Hamel also notched an assist for a two-point evening. Rookie Chaz Johnson put Binghamton on the scoreboard with his first tally of the season. Also netting his first goal was assistant captain Danny Bois, which snapped a 20-game goal-scoring drought for the veteran winger.

SATURDAY, NOV. 15 @ WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (3-0 L): The B-Sens were handed their first shutout loss of the 2008-09 season in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday night. Netminder Adam Berkhoel turned away 27 Binghamton shots to secure the shutout. Defenseman Brendan Bell saw his 11-game point streak (6+7) come to an end. Netminder Brian Elliott was solid in net, stopping 29 of 32 shots in the losing effort.

SUNDAY, NOV. 16 @ HERSHEY (9-0 L): Depleted due to injuries and call-ups to Ottawa, the B-Sens suffered the worst loss in franchise history on Sunday evening as the highs-scoring Hershey Bears defeated Binghamton 9-0. Keith Aucoin registered five points (1+4) for Hershey, while former B-Sen Alexandre Giroux scored twice and added two assist for four points. Netminder Jeff Glass allowed seven goals on 33 shots before Brian Elliott came into the game in a relief appearance.

THIS WEEK: The B-Sens play two of three games on home ice this coming weekend. Toronto (4-7-0-2, 10 pts.) invades the Arena on Friday night for the alone time this season. Division rival Philadelphia (8-8-0-0, 16 pts.) comes to town on Saturday night with former B-Sens coach John Paddock behind the bench for the Phantoms. The B-Sens cap the weekend with an afternoon contest against the Syracuse Crunch (12-3-0-1, 25 pts.).

FRIDAY, NOV. 21 vs. TORONTO (7:05 p.m.): The Marlies have dropped five straight games dating back to Nov. 1. Center Kris Newbury leads the way for the Marlies with 12 points (4+8). The B-Sens defeated the Marlies in their season opener in Toronto on Oct. 10. Josh Hennessy scored the lone goal for Binghamton. Brendan Bell and Denis Hamel netted shootout markers to give the B-Sens the extra point.

SATURDAY, NOV. 22 vs. PHILADELPHIA (7:05 p.m.): The Phantoms have rebounded from a slow start to get right back into the thick of the East Division race, just two points behind Binghamton. A six-game winning streak helped Philly get back on track. Defenseman Danny Syvret leads the attack for Philadelphia with 16 points (4+12). The B-Sens downed the Phantoms 3-1 on Oct. 18 in Philadelphia.

SUNDAY, NOV. 23 @ SYRACUSE (4:00 p.m.): The Crunch continue to lead the way in the North Division with points in their last six games (5-0-0-1). Syracuse's balanced attack has six players with 10 or more points. Leading the way is veteran Mike York with 16 points (3+13). Netminder Dan LaCosta has a 9-1-1 record in net, with a 2.39 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage. The B-Sens have points in all three games against Syracuse this year. Rooke defenseman Mattias Karlsson has four assists against the Crunch.

SENS SNIPPETS: The B-Sens begin another tough stretch with six games in nine days. Winger Greg Mauldin needs one point to hit 100 for his AHL career. The B-Sens still boast the leagues best power play, converting on 19/74 for a success rate of 25.7%. Binghamton is still searching for its first short-handed goal of the season. Last year, Binghamton led the league with 21 short-handed goals.
