Bakersfield Condors News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - The Alaska Aces pounded home four second period goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors in Game 1 at the Sullivan Arena on Tuesday night.
Tensions were high in a penalty-filled opening frame, and Alaska took the lead on the first power play of the contest. Being outshot at the time 6-0, Charles Linglet put the Aces on the board, redirecting a feed from the blueline by deadline-acquired Ryan Gaucher to make it 1-0. Eight penalties were handed out in the first, and the Condors led in shots 12-10.
Alaska scored early in the second to make it 2-0, but Brett Lutes gave the Condors life with their first goal of the post season to make it 2-1 just 4:06 in. But Alaska, with the help of three consecutive power plays, took over late in the period. Mike Scott, Scott Gomez and Joe Talbot scored in a span of less than six minutes to make it 5-1 after 40 minutes.
Lutes cut into the lead again in the third period with his second goal of the night, coming on the power play just 55 seconds in to make it 5-2. But it's as close as they could get. Replacing starter Davis Parley for the third period was rookie Andrew Martin out of RPI, and he stopped all 11 shots he faced, including a partial breakaway by the ECHL's leading goal scorer, Chris Minard.
The Condors and Aces meet again in Game 2 on Wednesday night at 8:15 p.m. (PST). Game 3 will take place on Thursday, April 14th at 7:00 p.m. The first 2,000 fans will get a Condors Rolling Blackout t- shirt, and all fans should wear black to the game to participate in the blackout. The first round of the playoffs is sponsored by KGET-TV 17, The Big 96.5 and U.S. Army.
Game 4, if necessary, will be on Saturday, April 16th at the Rabobank Arena. That night Bakersfield native and American Idol star Amy Adams will be singing the National Anthem as well as performing during the first intermission. She will be available for photos and autographs as well.
Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
