
Gladiators Bite Wolves, 5-1

Atlanta Gladiators News Release
After finishing the fist period in a 1-1 tie with the Sea Wolves, the Gwinnett Gladiators never allowed another Mississippi goal en route to a 5-1 win in the first game of the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Mississippi took a 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal 7:13 into the first period. On a 2-on-1 break, Austin Miller ripped a snap shot past Gladiators netminder Adam Berkhoel off a feed from Mike Garrow.
Schell tied the game up at a goal apiece with a slap shot from the right wing circle. Mike Vigilante picked up an assist on the goal with 33 seconds left in the first period as he tapped the puck ahead to Schell moving through the neutral zone.
Gwinnett took its first lead of the game midway through the second period on Mike Stathopoulos first tally of the playoffs. Pat Dwyer rolled the puck out of the corner to Stathopoulos in the slot for an assist on the goal. Cam Brown also picked up an assist on the goal.
Joe Bourne pushed the Gladiators' lead to two goals late in the second period with a power play tally. Schell found Bourne hanging out on the opposite post where the defenseman banged the puck home. Mike Stathopoulos also added an assist on the goal.
Brown extended the Gladiators lead to 4-1 just 20 seconds into the third period beating Mississippi netminder Phil Sauve on a breakaway. Falling down, Adam Smyth tapped the puck along to Brown in the neutral zone to pick up an assist on the goal. Randy Dagenais also picked up a helper on the play.
Schell capped the game with a goal a little more than two minutes later, sealing the 5-1 victory. Mike Stathopoulos added his second assist of the night in the contest.
Gladiator goaltender Adam Berkhoel picked up 26 saves in the game, earning his first postseason win along the way.
