Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades took a 1-0 lead over the South Carolina Stingrays in their best-of-five first round series with a 7-4 victory at Germain Arena. Florida used goals from six different skaters to up-end the six-seeded Stingrays.

The wild game saw the Everblades scored three goals in each of the first two periods en-route to the game-one victory. The two teams traded goal throughout the first period with Reggie Berg notching the first goal of the night just 2:57 into the contest. Carlyle Lewis responded for South Carolina at 4:31 tying the game at one.

Florida regained the lead notching the first of their two power play goals at 6:30 when Matt Pagnutti jumped on a loose puck and slipped it past Stingrays net-minder Justin Eddy, but saw South Carolina answer back once again when Jeremy Stevenson tallied at 12:29. The Everblades got a boost however when David Lundbohm scored the first of his two goals on the night with just 25 seconds remaining in the first period for a 3-2 lead.

In the second frame, the Everblades outscored the Stingrays 3-1 opening a 6-3 advantage after two periods of play. Brad Church gave the Everblades a two-goal lead at 4:01 of the second period deflecting a shot by Shane Hnidy. Once again, South Carolina responded with a goal of their own, this time when Ed Courtenay lifted one past Everblades goaltender Tyler MacKay at 8:40.

From that point on however, it was all Everblades. Lundbohm put Florida on top 5-3 at 11:43 and chased Eddy from the net for back-up goalie Greg Naumenko. The Everblades didn't take long to jump on Naumenko, with Chris Lee scoring on the first shot he faced at 13:04 of the second period.

Each team notched a third period goal, with the Everblades collecting their second power play goal of the night, taking advantage of a major power play. Paul Cabana tallied just 28 seconds into the third period with a little over three minutes left on the major penalty called against Stingrays captain Trevor Johnson for spearing. South Carolina closed out the scoring with Rich Peverley notching a power play goal at 14:43 of the frame.

MacKay picked up the win stopping 40 of 44 shots faced and Eddy suffered the loss after allowing five goals on 16 shots faced. Naumenko closed out the night stopping 10 of 12 shots faced over the final 28 minutes.

Florida closed out the night 2-for-6 on the power play, and South Carolina finished the evening 2-for-4 on the man-advantage.
