
SeaWolves Win Third Straight

The SeaWolves continued to ride hot bats as for the second consecutive night the Flying Squirrels fell to Erie by the score of 5-1.
The SeaWolves jumped on Richmond starter Edwin Escobar in the first. Daniel Fields and Ramon Cabrera hit back-to-back singles to start the action. Tyler Collins doubled home Fields to put Erie up 1-0. Wade Gaynor then cleared the bases with his single, giving the SeaWolves a 3-0 lead.
Erie added on insurance runs in the fourth and the seventh. The 'Wolves scored in the fourth when a throwing error by Escober on an infield dribbler by Marcus Lemon. The errant throw allowed Gaynor to score from third. In the seventh, Collins tallied his second RBI on a single that scored Fields.
Richmond's lone run came in the seventh. Jarret Parker single to lead off the inning and was moved to third on a single from Kelby Tomlinson. Ryan Lollis picked up the RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Erie starter Warwick Saupold (5-3, 2.76) had one of his best starts of the year, working five scoreless innings with six strikeouts. It's the fourth time Saupold reached the six-strikeout mark. Will Clinard and Tyler Clark each worked two innings to close out the game and clinch the series for the SeaWolves.
Erie will go for the series sweep when Patrick Cooper (2-8, 5.73) takes on Jack Snodgrass (8-4, 3.45) at 12:05.
