July 23, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Brad Glenn and Kevin Nolan represented the tying and go-ahead runs, respectively, in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday night, but the Harrisburg Senators (56-48) held on for a come-from-behind 6-5 win at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The loss leaves the teams knotted at one win each heading into the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night.
The Fisher Cats (52-49) were on the comeback trail for the second straight night after Harrisburg plated three runs in the top of the second against starter Deck McGuire (ND). Brad Glenn began the rally with a double to right field, and then scored on a Kevin Nolan single. Nolan came around to score when he tried to steal third and the throw skipped down the line to cut the Fisher Cats' deficit to 3-2.
An inning later the Fisher Cats drew even when Andy Burns doubled before taking third on a single from A.J. Jimenez. A wild pitch plated Burns to even the game up at 3-3.
New Hampshire grabbed the lead for the first time on Kevin Ahrens' second home run in the fifth, but a single from Jimmy VanOstrand knotted it back up at four in the sixth. The Fisher Cats re-took the lead on a Burns' single in the seventh, taking a 5-4 lead into the ninth.
Harrisburg rallied in the final frame against Alan Farina (L; 0-1) with a pair of singles and an error by Farina tying the game at 5-5. A base hit from Brian Goodwin pushed the Senators ahead, 6-5.
In the bottom of the inning, Glenn and Nolan reached on one-out singles before advancing another ninety feet on a wild pitch. The rally died when Aaron Barrett (S, 20) struck out Gabe Jacobo and retired Ryan Schimpf on a fly to right to end the game.
The teams now meet up for the series finale on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Fisher Cats cap courtesy of Mt. Washington Assurance. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com, at the Fisher Cats ticket office, and by calling (603) 641-2005.
The pitching match-up on Wednesday features RHP Marcus Stroman (5-2, 3.16) against Harrisburg RHP Rob Gilliam (3-4, 4.25). Radio coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. with Tom Gauthier and Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
