Yankees Hurler David Phelps Joins Thunder For Tuesday Rehab

The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced Tuesday that Yankees starting pitcher David Phelps has been transferred to the Thunder to begin an MLB rehab assignment. He is scheduled to start the opening game of tonight's (Tuesday's) doubleheader against the Altoona Curve at ARM & HAMMER Park beginning at 6:05 pm.

Additionally, Thunder right-handed starting pitcher Sean Black, a native of Mt. Laurel, NJ, has been placed on the team's disabled list with right elbow soreness (retroactive to 7/19). Outfielder Mikeson Oliberto has been transferred back to Short Season-A Staten Island after playing one game with the squad.

Phelps, 26, has been on the Yankees DL since July 5th with a slight sprain of his right forearm. He has made 18 appearances (12 starts) with New York this season and gone 6-5 with a 5.01 ERA. Phelps spent a large portion of the 2010 season with Trenton and went 6-0 with a 2.04 ERA in the Eastern League
