Baysox Make Aeros Pay for Miscues

Akron RubberDucks News Release
Bowie, MD - Bowie's Eduardo Rodriguez hurled six innings of three-hit baseball Tuesday night, and earned his first Double-A win, as the Baysox defeated Akron, 8-2, at Prince George's Stadium.
The Baysox (52-50) evened the series at a game apiece, setting the stage for the rubber game of the series Wednesday morning at 11:05. The Aeros (51-52) saw their four-game winning streak come to a halt. The loss, couple with Harrisburg's win at New Hampshire, dropped the Aeros to 4 1/2 games out of first in the EL West.
Rodriguez, a 20-year-old lefty and rising star in the Orioles system, cruised through six innings, allowing only three hits, all singles. He allowed two runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Matt Lawson and a sacrifice fly by Kyle Bellows. Other than that, he was dominant in just his fourth start at Double-A. Rodriguez (1-2) finished his outing by retiring the final eight batters he faced.
The Aeros put starter Paolo Espino (2-4) behind the eight-ball early, committing two costly errors in the first inning, leading to three unearned runs and a 3-0 deficit. After a lead-off single by Kyle Hudson, Bowie's Trayvon Robinson bounced a grounder to first baseman Jesus Aguilar. Aguilar's throw to second for what appeared likely to start a double-play, glanced off Francisco Lindor's glove for an error. With both runners safe, Niuman Romero lined out for the second out. The next hitter, Christian Walker, lifted a deep fly ball to center, and looked like Espino had escaped the jam. The ball, however, popped out of Cedric Hunter's glove for the second error of the inning, and both runs scored easily. Seth Loman followed with an RBI single to score Walker to make it 3-0.
In the fourth, left fielder Matt Lawson dropped a fly ball, setting up another unearned run that made it 4-0. Once the Aeros pulled to within 4-2 in the fourth, the Baysox went back to work getting a two-run single from Hudson in the bottom of the fourth, and then two more runs in the sixth to make it 8-2 and chase Espino from the game. It was the second straight loss for Akron's all-time winningest pitcher.
It was an aberration for the Aeros, who have been among the top defensive teams in the EL this season. It was the first time that Akron committed three errors in a game since May 22nd, also against Bowie, and also a loss (7-5).
For the second straight night, the Aeros bullpen provided excellent relief. Enosil Tejeda, Rob Bryson, and Jose Flores combined for 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief. Tejeda stranded two inherited runners after he relieved Espino in the sixth.
Lindor walked twice and was also hit by a pitch, but his six-game hitting streak came to an end. Hunter was 0-4, and saw his nine-game streak come to a close also. Carlos Moncrief had a pair of hits and increased his batting average to .311.
The Aeros and Baysox will play the rubber game of the series Wednesday morning at 11:05. RHP Toru Murata (4-5, 3.96) will start for Akron, while Bowie will counter with RHP Tyler Wilson (5-1, 2.23). The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1350 AM, and online at www.sportsradio1350.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
