
SeaWolves Walk Off a Winner

The Erie SeaWolves delivered a triumphant finish with a walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth, prevailing over the New Britain Rock Cats 3-2. The win was Erie's fifth straight, giving the club its longest winning streak of the season.
The Rock Cats delivered the opening punch in the first inning as Nate Hanson doubled and advanced to third on a Joe Benson two-bagger. He came home to score on a Chris Parmelee sacrifice fly, allowing New Britain to gain a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, the Rock Cats added onto their lead with Jair Fernandez leading off with a walk, advancing to second on Mark Dolen's free pass, reaching third on Brian Dozier's single, and coming in to score on Hanson's sacrifice fly, making the score 2-0.
The SeaWolves answered in the bottom of the third. Jamie Johnson tripled with one out and scored on a Justin Henry triple. Henry would home on a Rawley Bishop RBI double, tying the game 2-2.
Both sides had their pitchers deliver shut down performances for 5 ½ inning and the game remain tied until the bottom of the ninth. Brent Wyatt led off and connected on a line drive home run over the wall in right, giving Erie a walkoff 3-2 victory.
Luis Marte (1-0) got the win going two innings of shutout relief. He did not allow a walk while striking out two. Starter Casey Crosby, despite getting a no decision, pitched a solid seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. It was the first time Crosby worked seven innings since April 30.
Steve Hirschfeld (8-7) got the loss in three innings of relief, giving up one earned run on three hits and a strikeout.
The SeaWolves will wrap up their three-game series with the Rock Cats on Thursday night at 7:05p.m. It will be a battle of lefties as Erie sends Jay Voss (6-5, 3.80 ERA) up against Blake Martin (1-3 5.08 ERA).
