SeaWolves Take Series Opener in Altoona

Erie kicked off a twelve-game road trip with a win on Tuesday night, knocking off the Altoona Curve 5-1. Erie plated three runs in the second inning, highlighted by Dane Myers knocking a two-run home run in his Double-A debut. Pedro Payano led the way for a quality pitching day, tossing four innings and allowing only one run. Dylan Rosa drove in two runs at the plate to aid the cause.
Altoona starter Roansy Contreras entered the game with just over 17 scoreless innings to start the season, but he could only manage one scoreless frame against Erie. Josh Lester opened the second inning with a triple to center field and scored on a grounder by Dylan Rosa. Jon Rosoff kept the inning alive with a two-out single before making way for Dane Myers. Myers knocked the second pitch he saw in Double-A over the left field wall for a two-run home run, pushing Erie ahead 3-0.
Contreras (2-1) lost accuracy following the three-run second inning, and walked three batters in the third. Erie got the first three batters of the inning on base, and Dylan Rosa drew a walk to pick up his second RBI of the day. Kona Quiggle ended the scoring day for Erie with a sacrifice fly in the same inning. The Altoona starter only managed to work four innings before leaving, while the bullpen kept Erie from increasing their lead.
Pedro Payano took the bump for Erie after making a brief relief appearance with Triple-A Toldeo, and continued his serviceable work. After pitching a perfect first inning, Payano worked into a jam in the second inning that included an error, a hit batter, and a walk. Payano escaped the bases-loaded jam with a pop out, however, and only got tagged for a solo home run by Cal Mitchell in his four innings of work. Altoona only managed three hits on the night.
Out of the bullpen, Cale Coshow and Gerson Moreno continued to keep Altoona from plating more runs in two brief innings of work each. Ethan DeCaster polished off the win for Erie with a scoreless ninth inning, while Coshow (1-0) earned the decision.
