
Mieses Hits League Leading 8th Home Run in 8-5 Loss to Hartford

Portland, Maine - The Hartford Yard Goats (6-13) hit three home runs as they defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (11-8) 8-5 Tuesday night at Hadlock Field in the first game of a six-game series.
The Yard Goats got out of the gate early sending nine men to the plate and scoring five runs in the first inning highlighted by a three-run homer by Sean Bouchard, his second of the season. Taylor Snyder added an RBI double and Max George chipped-in with an RBI single.
All the damage came at the expense of Portland starter Enmanuel De Jesus (1-1), who suffered the loss allowing five runs on five hits in 2/3 of an inning.
Rio Gomez relieved De Jesus stranding two runners in the first. Gomez went on to toss 3.2 innings of relief holding the Yard Goats to one run on three hits, while recording three strikeouts.
Jake Thompson made his Hadlock Field debut taking over for Gomez and held the Yard Goats hitless over 2.2 innings of work with four strikeouts.
Roldani Baldwin and Ryan Fitzgerald hit back-to-back doubles in the second inning off Yard Goats starter Frank Duncan to score their first run of the game. Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 on the night with a pair of doubles.
Portland added two runs in the seventh to cut the Yard Goats lead to 6-3. Pedro Castellanos doubled home Tanner Nishioka and Jeisson Rosario scored on a Johan Mieses ground out.
The Yard Goats responded with two runs of their own in the eighth inning with back-to-backs homers from Max George and Manny Melendez off of Durbin Feltman to extend their lead to 8-3.
Portland scored single runs in the eighth and ninth but fell short of the comeback. In the eighth Jeisson Rosario singled to left field to score Fitzgerald. In the ninth, Mieses connected for his league leading eighth home run of the season.
Duncan (1-1) earned the win for Hartford holding the Sea Dogs to one run on seven hits in 5.2 innings.
Portland outhit Hartford 12-11 in the contest.
The Sea Dogs and Yard Goats continue the six-game series Wednesday night at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field. Righty Kutter Crawford (0-1, 5.23) gets the start for the Sea Dogs. He will be opposed by Hartford righty Matt Dennis (0-2, 7.43). The first 500 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a Bobby Dalbec bobblehead with home run counter, presented by Royal River Heat Pumps.
