Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets used two separate four-run innings to beat the Erie SeaWolves, 10-1, Monday night at NYSEG Stadium, snapping Erie's six-game winning streak. Binghamton pounded out 13 hits, including three from Brock Peterson. TJ Rivera led the charge, going 4-for-4 with two RBI, as the B-Mets scored their most runs in two weeks.
Binghamton started the scoring with a four-run second inning against starter Tommy Collier. After a single and two walks loaded the bases, Gilbert Gomez bounced a potential double play ball to short. Gomez beat the relay to first, allowing a run to score and giving Binghamton the lead. The very next batter, LJ Mazzilli, would snap an 0-for-11 drought with a two-run double to left field. TJ Rivera followed with an RBI double of his own, capping the four-run frame.
Rainy Lara worked around four separate baserunners in the first three innings, before making his lone mistake in the fourth. With one out and the bases empty, Jason Krizan launched his sixth home run of the season off the video board in right field to get the SeaWolves on the board.
Already leading, 4-1, the B-Mets would get the run back in the last of the fifth inning. With two outs and a runner at first, Peterson snapped out of an 0-for-13 stretch with an RBI double to left.
Binghamton added their second four-run inning of the night one frame later. Collier allowed back-to-back singles to open the inning, before retiring the next two B-Mets. After a Mazzilli walk loaded the bases, Rivera notched his fourth hit of the night with an RBI infield single to short. Joe Benson followed with his first hit of the night, a double to left field to score two more runs. Peterson capped the inning with an RBI single to left field, his second consecutive run producing hit.
Binghamton added a run in the eighth for good measure, when Jonathan Galvez stepped to the plate with the bases full and two outs. He grounded an infield single to short, pushing the B-Mets run total into double digits.
Three different B-Met relievers combined to toss three no-hit innings to close the door in the victory.
Lara (7-5) earned his first career win against Erie, allowing a run in seven innings. Collier (4-3) was roughed up in the loss, surrendering nine runs and 10 hits in 5-2/3 innings.
The B-Mets (69-57) continue their series with Erie Tuesday with a doubleheader that begins at 5:35 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 5:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
POSTGAME NOTES: It was TJ Rivera's third four-hit game of the season...it was the third time Binghamton has reach double-digit hits in their last five games...Binghamton remains 3.5 games behind Reading for first place.
