Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced for August 17-August 23

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of August 17th through August 23rd:

Erie SeaWolves first baseman Dominic Ficociello has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 17th-August 23rd. The 23-year old hit .600 (12-for-20) with three doubles, two triples, 10 RBIs, five runs scored and a .950 slugging percentage in six games for the SeaWolves last week. Ficociello, who is a native of Anaheim, California, had at least one hit in all five games he had a plate appearance in last week and had multiple hits in four of those games, including going 4-for-5 with one double, three RBIs and one run scored in Erie's 7-1 win at Akron on Saturday night. The 6'4", 205 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.600), on-base percentage (.600), slugging percentage (.950) and OPS (1.550) last week and tied for the lead in total bases (19), triples (2) and RBIs (10). He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in hits (12-2nd), extra-base hits (5-tied 2nd), doubles (3-tied 3rd) and runs scored (5-tied 9th). Dominic, who is hitting .337 with 11 doubles, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored in 28 games for the SeaWolves since being promoted to Erie from Class-A Lakeland in mid-July, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 12th round of the 2013 draft following his junior season at the University of Arkansas.

Aaron Wilkerson, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Portland Sea Dogs, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 17th-August 23rd. The 6'3", 190 lb. hurler started two games for the Sea Dogs last week and had a record of 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and a 0.64 ERA. Wilkerson, who is a native of Fort Worth, Texas, made his first start of the week on Tuesday night at Altoona and gave up one run on four hits over seven innings in Portland's 2-1 victory. He struck out four batters and did not issue a walk while earning his first career Double-A victory. Wilkerson was even better in his second start of the week on Sunday afternoon at Harrisburg, firing seven shutout innings in Portland's 9-0 win. He scattered two hits while striking out seven batters and walking two. The 26-year old was the only pitcher in the Eastern League that collected two wins last week and he also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in strikeouts (11-tied 2nd), innings pitched (14.0-tied 2nd), WHIP (0.57-4th) and batting average against (.133-4th). Aaron was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a Minor League Free Agent on July 18, 2014 after spending time with the Grand Prairie Air Hogs of the American Association and the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League.
