Wilkerson Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

Portland, Maine - The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has selected Portland Sea Dogs' starting pitcher Aaron Wilkerson as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 17th - August 23rd.
Wilkerson went 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA (1 ER/14.0 IP) in two starts last week at Altoona and Harrisburg. He allowed just six hits while walking two and striking out 11. The Fort Worth, TX native was signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent out of the independent American Association on July 18, 2014. This is his second season in the Red Sox organization.
In four starts with the Sea Dogs this season, Wilkerson is 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA (10 ER/24.2 IP) while allowing 17 hits, six walks, and striking out 21. Opponents are batting .193 against him. In 26 appearances (17 starts) between Portland, High-A Salem, and Low-A Greenville this year, Wilkerson is 9-3 with a 3.36 ERA (45 ER/120.2 IP). He's allowed 96 hits and 32 walks while striking out 123 and holding opponents to a .220 average.
Wilkerson is the second Sea Dog to earn player of the week honors in 2015, joining Oscar Tejeda (5/11-17). Last season, eight different Sea Dogs were awarded the honor (Mookie Betts, Deven Marrero, Sean Coyle, Keury De La Cruz, Henry Owens, Mike McCarthy, Brian Johnson, Justin Haley). The honor is the second in Wilkerson's career; he was the New York-Penn League Pitcher of the Week for the week of 9/2/14.
