Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Erie SeaWolves snapped the Binghamton Rumble Ponies five-game winning streak behind a 9-3 series-ending victory Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Erie was powered by a five-run fifth inning, sending all nine SeaWolves to the plate during the rally.
Despite playing from behind in much of the series, Binghamton's hole was dug too deep in Wednesday's fifth inning. Already ahead 3-1, Erie received three straight singles from Danny Woodrow, Will Maddox, and Josh Lester to kick start the frame. After Luis Rojas removed Rumble Ponies starter Andrew Church for Adonis Uceta, the SeaWolves continued to damage Ponies pitching. Uceta was greeted by a two-run double off the bat of Dominic Ficocello, stretching the SeaWolves advantage to 6-1. A Nick Sergakis error helped plate two more Erie tallies, earning the SeaWolves an 8-1 lead after the fifth. They sent nine batters to the plate and collected five runs on four hits.
Church (1-5) lasted four innings in his first-ever start against Erie. He allowed six earned runs and struck out a season-best eight batters.
The Rumble Ponies offense, meanwhile, struggled to generate offense off of SeaWolves starter Beau Burrows. Jeff McNeil's first inning blast was Burrows only blemish in his second-career start against Binghamton.
Burrows (5-2) coughed up one earned run across his six strong frames. He whiffed three Rumble Ponies, while issuing just one walk.
The Binghamton bats wouldn't be silenced despite the large deficit. Trailing 9-1 in the seventh inning, Levi Michael and Nick Sergakis each launched solo home runs to cut it to a 9-3 game.
Blaise Salter capped the scoring with his first Double-A home run, a ninth-inning solo shot off of Rumble Ponies reliever Austin McGeorge.
Binghamton (19-18) hits the road for a five-game four day set at New Hampshire, starting on Thursday night. RHP Nabil Crismatt gets the ball for the Ponies against Fisher Cats RHP Francisco Rios. First pitch at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium is scheduled for 6:35 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:20 PM and can be heard on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn.
POSTGAME NOTES: Jeff McNeil extended his hitting streak to 15 games, tied for the longest in the Eastern League this season...Rumble Ponies pitching matched a season high with 15 strikeouts...David Roseboom has tossed his last 7.2 innings scoreless (6 appearances)...Nick Sergakis' home run was his first at Double-A
