
SeaWolves Spoil Pettitte's Return to Trenton as Bats Explode

The SeaWolves brought out their hitting shoes on Wednesday night in front of a packed house at Waterfront Park, handing Andy Pettitte the loss in a 10-4 game.
The 'Wolves struck first in the top of the first inning against Pettitte. Michael Rockett and Brandon Douglas each singled to start the inning putting runners on the corners for Niuman Romero. Romero hit into a force out, scoring Rockett for a 1-0 'Wolves lead.
In the fourth, Romero led off with a walk and moved into scoring position on a hit-and-run with Rawley Bishop as he laced a ball down the right field line. Rob Brantly singled home Romero for a 2-0 Erie edge.
Erie added to the lead in the fifth against Pettitte. Jamie Johnson led off with a single and moved to third on a Rockett groundball to third that was misplayed by Addison Maruszak. Douglas singled home Johnson for a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Brantly singled off of Pettitte and that would be the last batter he faced. Erie would load the bases on reliever Patrick Claibourn with a Bryan Pounds single and John Murrian walk. Jamie Johnson grounded home Brantly for a 4-0 Erie lead.
Trenton got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, ending Erie starter Zack Segovia's shutout bid. With two outs, Walter Ibarra reached on an error and Ronnier Mustelier walked bringing Cody Johnson to the plate. Johnson crushed a three-run home run to right making it a 4-3 game.
Erie responded quickly in the top of the seventh. Romero walked and Jordan Lennerton singled putting two on for Bishop. Bishop hit into a force out a second for the first out. With runners on the corners, Brantly hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Romero for a 5-3 Erie edge. Bryan Pounds followed with an RBI double and Murrian with an RBI single making it 7-3 'Wolves.
The SeaWolves extended the lead in the top of the eighth against reliever Kelvin Perez. Douglas led off, doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. With one out, Trenton intentionally walked Lennerton to set up a double play. Bishop grounded to short and the ball was booted by Ibarra allowing Douglas to score making it 8-3. Brantly walked to load the bases and Pounds walked to score Lennerton making it a 9-3 game. Murrian hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Bishop, capping a 10-run Erie outburst.
Segovia (1-2) was strong for the SeaWolves starting the game with 5.2 scoreless frames before the error led to three in the sixth. He equaled a season-high with six innings, allowing three unearned runs on two hits with two walks and a season-high five strikeouts.
Pettitte (0-1) went five-plus innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
The SeaWolves and Thunder play the rubber game of the three-game series on Thursday morning at Waterfront Park.10:35 a.m. First Pitch. LHP Jared Wesson (1-1, 8.16 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Craig Heyer (1-1, 2.16 ERA).
