Bullpen & Explosive Offense Combine for 9-5 Win

BINGHAMTON, NY - Six different B-Mets collected multiple hits and the bullpen allowed just one run over 5.2 innings in a 9-5 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Wednesday night. Binghamton finished with 14 hits, one shy of a season-high.

Jeff Kaplan and Elvin Ramirez picked up the slack for Darin Gorski who struggled through 3.2 innings. The southpaw walked a season-high four and gave up four runs on five hits. Kaplan chewed up 3.1 frames and Ramirez tossed two perfect innings to secure the win.

Matt den Dekker jump-started the offense in the first against starter Deck McGuire. The centerfielder dumped a double into leftfield and came home on Oswaldo Navarro's double to right centerfield. Navarro later scored on a sac fly from Jefry Marte.

Binghamton added three more in the second. Rafael Fernandez singled in his first Double-A plate appearance, advanced on Juan Centeno's double and scored on a groudout by Pedro Zapata. Den Dekker cleared the bases with a two-run bomb to right field, his second homer of the season.

The Fisher Cats refused to roll over in the contest. They answered with a run in the third off Gorski. Justin Jackson doubled, stole second and scored on Brad Glenn's single to center.

The B-Mets fended off the attack with two more runs in the bottom of the inning. Following a walk and a hit batsman, Juan Centeno collected his fourth RBI with a single to right. Pedro Zapata followed with a run-scoring infield single to third.

Trailing 7-1, New Hampshire tightened the game and chased Gorski with a three-run fourth. Following a single by Mark Sobolewski, Gorski walked a pair to load the bases. The lefty uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Sobolewski to score. His night ended one batter later when Mike McDade dropped a two-run single to left. Jeff Kaplan entered and retired Brad Glenn to end the inning.

Kaplan, in his first game with the B-Mets in 2012, kept the Fisher Cats at bay in a solid performance. The righty allowed just one run over 3.1 innings. It was his longest appearance since returning from an elbow injury that limited him to one game in 2010. He struck out four and scattered five hits.

Binghamton added on final run in the sixth on an RBI triple by Joe Bonfe, his first hit as a B-Met.

Elvin Ramirez took over in the eighth and cruised to the finish line. The righty retired all six he faced, capping Binghamton's tenth win of the year. Kaplan was awarded the win and McGuire suffered the loss.

The B-Mets (10-8) look to take the rubber match against the Fisher Cats tomorrow night at 6:35 PM. RHP Greg Peavey takes the ball against RHP Yohan Pino. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
