Curve Can't Crack Rosenbaum for Second Straight Week

CURVE, Pa. - Harrisburg's Danny Rosenbaum (3-0) continued his mastery of Altoona as he limited the Curve to three hits across his seven innings of work in the Senators, 8-0, win on Wednesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Matt Curry doubled in his last at bat to extend his hitting streak to seven games and it's also six straight games with a double for the first baseman Curry.

The Senators jumped on the scoreboard first in the second inning off Curve starter Nathan Baker (2-2), who pitched better early on than he did last week in his loss to the Senators. Chris Rahl doubled with one down in the second and moved to third on a Stephen King single to right to place runners at the corners. A passed ball by Tony Sanchez allowed Rahl to score and give the 'Sens the, 1-0, advantage. Chris McConnell hit a sacrifice fly two batters later to bring King in from third for an unearned run off Baker and the Senators had the lead, 2-0.

It would be enough for the Senators pitching trio of Rosenbaum, Patrick McCoy and Hector Nelo, who combined to shutout and five-hit the Curve. Rosenbaum dealt 15 ground ball outs on Wednesday evening after inducing 14 in his last start against the Curve a week ago in Harrisburg. He held the Curve hitless from the fourth through the seventh innings and struck out a pair while walking a pair.

Baker completed 5.1 innings on Wednesday night and allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits to suffer his second defeat at the hands of the Senators. Jhonathan Ramos pitched 2.1 frames for the Curve as well and allowed one run on three hits in 2.2 innings. Vic Black pitched a scoreless ninth and struck out a pair as well.

Offensively, Elevys Gonzalez, Adalberto Santos, Jeremy Farrell and Curry were the only ones to record hits in the loss for the Curve.

Altoona (7-10) will look to salvage the final game of the three-game series with Harrisburg (13-6) as the two meet in the series finale on Thursday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. from Peoples Natural Gas Field. On the mound the Curve will send RHP Brandon Cumpton (1-2, 4.15) to try and pick up a win after earning his first Double-A win in his last start against the Squirrels. Harrisburg will counter RHP Rob Gilliam (1-2, 6.00) in the finale on Thursday.
