
Sobolewski Has Three Hits in 9-5 Loss to Mets

(Binghamton, NY)---Mark Sobolewski had three hits including a double and Mike McDade drove in two runs with a single, but Binghamton held off the Fisher Cats 9-5 on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.
The Mets (10-8) opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Den Decker doubled and scored on a double by Oswaldo Navarro to make it 1-0. After a single by Josh Rodriguez moved Navarro to third, he scored on a sacrifice fly by Jefry Marte.
Binghamton extended the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Rafael Fernandez led off with a single and Juan Centeno followed with a double. Pedro Zapata grounded out as Fernandez scored and Den Decker followed with a home run to give the Mets a 5-0 lead.
New Hampshire picked up its first run in the top of the third inning, loading the bases on a single and two walks before Brad Glenn drilled an RBI single up the middle, scoring Justin Jackson to cut the Mets lead to 5-1.
In the last of the third inning, Centeno and Zapata added RBI singles and the Mets rolled out to a 7-1 lead against losing pitcher Deck McGuire (1-3), who was lifted after three frames.
The Fisher Cats (7-11) rallied to trim the lead to 7-4 in the top of the fourth inning, knocking out Binghamton's starter Darin Gorski. Sobolewski singled, Koby Clemens and Ryan Goins walked. Sobolewski scored on a wild pitch and Mike McDade knocked in two runs with a single.
Binghamton added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Joe Bonfe to make it 8-4.
New Hampshire answered in the top of the fifth inning with a run to make it 8-5. A. J. Jimenez doubled, Sobolewski singled and Jonathan Diaz knocked Jimenez in with a single up-the-middle. But the Fisher Cats could get no closer.
The Mets added a final run in the sixth inning. Jefry Marte singled and scored on a triple by Joe Bonfe.
Jeff Kaplan (1-0) allowed one run in 3.1 innings of relief to earn the win for the Mets.
The series concludes with the rubber game on Thursday at 6:35pm at NYSEG Stadium. The Fisher Cats are expected to start RHP Yohan Pino (0-0, 3.86) against RHP Greg Peavey (2-0, 3.14).
