Akron RubberDucks News Release
Bowie, MD - Akron's Chun Chen delivered an RBI single in the top of the 11th inning to snap a 4-4 deadlock, and lift the Aeros to a 5-4 victory over the Bowie Baysox Wednesday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium.
Chen had three hits on the day, going 3-6, with a pair of RBI's. His base hit up the middle in the 11th off Sean Gleason (0-1) drove in catcher Michel Hernandez, who led off the 11th with a double.
Earlier in the game, Chen doubled off the wall in left in the third inning to drive in a run and give the Aeros a 3-0 lead.
Chen, who served as the Aeros DH Wednesday, raised his average to .323 with his three-hit performance. He has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, going 15-34 (.441) over that stretch. He had an extra base hit in every game against Bowie, and now has five doubles on the season.
Aeros righthander Rob Bryson (1-0), who gave up a run in the 10th to surrender a 4-3 Akron lead, came back with a strong 11th, retiring the Baysox in order for his first win.
The Aeros (11-6) took two of three games against the Baysox and completed a 3-2 road-trip. In six early games against Bowie this season, the Aeros are 4-2.
The Baysox (7-13) scored a run in the ninth off Preston Guilmet to tie the game 3-3. With two outs and a runner on second, Travis Adair's pop-up to shallow left-center dropped among three Aeros for a game-tying double.
Adair's bloop double prevented a winning decision for Aeros starter Steven Wright, who worked 7 1/3 innings and allowed only two runs. Wright, who enjoyed his longest outing of the year, walked one and struck out five. His season ERA now stands at 1.82.
Aeros pitching recorded 32 strikeouts in the series.
Thomas Neal went 2-4 for Akron, including an RBI single in the 10th to give the Aeros a short-lived 4-3 lead.
First baseman Adam Abraham reached base six times for the Aeros Wednesday, singling twice and walking four times. Shortstop Davis Stoneburner stroked a two-run double in the second off Bowie starter Zach Clark for a 2-0 Akron lead. It gave Stoneburner his first two RBI's of the year.
Following an off-day Thursday, the Aeros begin a seven-game homestand at Canal Park on Friday night at 7:05, against the Altoona Curve. Friday's game will feature Rocky-themed fireworks presented by Zayo Enterprises. LHP Giovanni Soto (2-0, 5.02) will start for the Aeros. The Curve have not announced a starter for the series opener. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
