Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves dropped their second consecutive game as they were shut out by the Altoona Curve on Friday night at PNG Field 3-0.
Erie spot starter Trent Szkutnik began the game tossing two scoreless frames but ran into trouble in the third as the Curve loaded the bases with two outs. The 'Wolves summoned Joe Navilhon who induced a flyout from Logan Hill to retire the side.
Altoona would take the lead in the fourth against Navilhon. Bligh Madris and Robbie Glendinning started the frame with back-to-back singles, putting runners on the corners. Jarek Suiter lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Madris for a 1-0 lead. Alfredo Reyes singled home Glendinning with two outs for a 2-0 advantage.
The Curve added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Mitchell Tolman led off with a single and stole second. He scored on a one-out Jared Oliva base hit for a 3-0 lead. It would be the game's final run. Navilhon would bounce back in the sixth, striking out three hitters.
Wladimir Pinto and Zac Houston combined to keep Altoona off the scoreboard for the final two frames of the game. Pinto, in his Double-A debut, struck out the first two batters of the seventh before allowing the Curve to load the bases. He worked out of the jam. Houston struck out the side in the eighth.
The SeaWolves best scoring opportunity came in the seventh against reliever Beau Sulser. Frank Schwindel led off the frame with his second of three hits in the game. Daniel Pinero singled with one out and Kody Eaves walked, loading the bases. Sulser would get out of the jam, keeping Erie off the board. He would go on to work two more scoreless innings, earning his second save.
