
SeaWolves Come from Behind, Knock off Fightins

The SeaWolves used a late rally and notched a come from behind win on Saturday night at First Energy Stadium, taking down the Reading Fightin Phils 7-5.
Erie jumped ahead in the third against Fightins starter Jesse Biddle. Brendan Harris walked, Josh Prince Singled and Jeff McVaney walked, loading the bases. A wild pitch scored Harris for a 1-0 Erie lead. The run snapped Erie's streak of consecutive scoreless innings at 21. With one out, Dean Green singled home Prince for a 2-0 lead.
Reading quickly responded in the bottom of the second against Erie starter Austin Kubitza . Harold Martinez singled and Blake Forsythe walked putting two on for the top of the lineup. Roman Quinn laid down a sacrifice bunt and on an error, all three runners reached base safely. Reading tied the game on consecutive RBI groundouts by KC Serna and Brock Stassi .
The 'Wolves regained the lead in the fourth when Drew Longley led off and belted a solo home run, his first, for a 3-2 lead. It was Longley's first home run since July 10, 2013 with the GCL Tigers.
The lead did not last long once again as Art Charles led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and moved to second on an error. Charles scored on a Brodie Green single, tying the game.
Reading took the lead in the next inning. Quinn led off with a single and stole his league-leading 19th base. With one out, Stassi singled home Quinn for 4-3 Reading lead.
Reading held the lead until the eighth when Wade Gaynor blasted a solo home run, his third, off of reliever Neifi Ogando making it a 4-4 game.
Confessor Lara entered in the bottom of the eighth and walked the leadoff hitter Cam Perkins. Perkins made it to third base but Lara battled around the walk to keep Reading off the scoreboard.
The SeaWolves regained the lead in the top of the ninth against reliever Stephen Shakleford . Prince led off with his third hit of the day and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Connor Harrell walked with one out putting runners on the corners for Green. Green laced his third opposite-field hit of the day, plating Prince for a 5-4 lead. With two outs and runners on the corners, Harrell scored on a passed ball making it 6-4. Jason Krizan capped the Erie scoring with a single to left, plating Green making it 7-4.
Reading would attempt to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth against Jeff Ferrell. Quinn led off with his second hit of the day and scored from first on a one-out Stassi double making it 7-5. Aaron Altherr followed with a single putting runners on the corners, bringing the winning run to the plate. Ferrell then struck out Art Charles and Cam Perkins, ending the game, earning his second save in as many changes.
Lara (1-0) earned the win tossing a scoreless frame in relief.
Kubitza took the no-decision allowing four runs, two earned, on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings.
The win was Erie's first when trailing after six innings on the road this season.
