Squirrels Stall, Baysox Blow Past, 8-4

Bowie, MD - In a ballgame delayed at the outset by an hour and 40 minutes, the Bowie Baysox (19-17) scored the final eight runs to brush past the Richmond Flying Squirrels (13-20) and claim an, 8-4, victory. The win snapped the Squirrels three-game win-streak and allowed the Baysox to end their own five-game slide.

Bowie lefty Tim Berry ignited his own inferno in the second. With one out, he issued three consecutive walks to Myles Schroder, Angel Villalona and Eliezer Zambrano. The Squirrels first run scored on a fielder's choice bouncer from Rando Moreno. Kelby Tomlinson then cracked an RBI single into center field. Devin Harris really made the walks hurt for Bowie, crunching a two-run double off the fence in center. Harris' drive made it 4-0 Richmond.

The Baysox got one run back in the third without the benefit of a hit. Righty Chris Stratton issued two walks in the inning. The first of those, Mike Yastrzemski, scored when Moreno committed an error later in the inning.

Bowie pulled within a lone run in the fourth. Quincy Latimore led off and drove a triple off the wall in right-center field. Ozzie Martinez followed and yanked a two-run home run over the left-field wall to trim the Richmond lead to 4-3.

Both starting pitchers lasted five innings. Berry allowed four earned runs on five hits, walked three and struck out four. Stratton permitted three runs - two earned - on six hits, walked three and struck out five. Neither factored in the decision.

Bowie tied the game with a lone run in the sixth inning and then put it away with four runs in the seventh. The run in the sixth was charged to righty Edwin Quirarte. The four runs in the seventh came against right-hander Jose Casilla, who entered having thrown 11 consecutive scoreless innings. Three of the runs were unearned, but that was due to a throwing error assessed to Casilla. The inning included an RBI single from Latimore, an RBI single from Glynn Davis and a two-run single from Rossmel Perez. Casilla (1-2) took the loss for Richmond.

Right-hander Marcel Prado (1-0) turned in two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win for the Baysox. Right-hander Mychel Givens closed the win with two additional scoreless innings.

The finale of the four-game series is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium. Richmond LHP Jack Snodgrass (2-3, 4.94) will make the start against Bowie RHP Terry Doyle (2-0, 2.45).
