Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - A crowd of 5,206 watched the Curve battle through 13 innings of baseball before falling to the Akron RubberDucks, 2-1, on Saturday night. The Curve's six-game winning streak came to a close with the loss.
The Curve's (22-12) six-game winning streak wasn't the only streak to end as Max Moroff's 30 game on-base streak also came to a close with an 0-for-5 day in the loss. The Curve second baseman was only three games shy of tying the Curve franchise record set at 33 games.
The Curve offensive only mustered one run in Saturday night's game. Sebastian Valle's double scored Edward Salcedo in the fifth to give the Curve a 1-0 lead accounted for all the scoring for the home team.
Akron (14-21) came back to tie the game in the eighth inning. 'Ducks catcher Tony Wolters drove in Yandy Diaz to complete the comeback.
From there the game remained scoreless until Jordan Smith put the Akron ahead in the 13th scoring Jeremy Lucas. The 'Ducks offense left 19 runners on base and was 2-for-17 in runners in scoring position but still managed to come away with a win.
Curve starter Chad Kuhl went six scoreless innings and left in line for a win before turning the game over to the bullpen. All told, the Curve walked 13 batters in the 13-inning game, eclipsing a franchise-mark of 12 set last year in Richmond.
Altoona and Akron will close the homestand at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Before Sunday's game there will be a Youth Baseball Clinic on the field starting at 10 a.m. and ending at noon. The camp is free with the purchase of a ticket to the game on Sunday. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Kids can run the bases after the game.
On the hill Sunday afternoon for the Curve will be top pitching prospect Tyler Glasnow (2-1, 1.40), who is scheduled to make his first start since spraining his ankle sliding into second base on May 6. The southpaw Shawn Morimando (3-4, 3.44) will be on the bump for the 'Ducks.
Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. For tickets and more information, visit AltoonaCurve.com, call 877.99.CURVE or stop by the box office at PNG Field.
