Senators Waste Keyes' Slam
May 16, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Kevin Keyes' grand slam in the top of the sixth inning was not enough as Harrisburg surrendered four runs to the Trenton Thunder in the ninth inning in a 5-4 loss Saturday night in Trenton. The loss for Harrisburg (14-21) is its third in a row.
Heading into a rain delay Saturday night, Harrisburg had managed just four singles in five scoreless innings. Following the delay that lasted an hour and 35 minutes, Harrisburg struck quickly in the sixth inning. Derrick Robinson singled, Tony Renda walked and Mario Lisson singled to set the stage for Keyes. The Senators' slugger hit an 0-1 offering over the left field wall for a grand slam - his fourth homer of the season - upping his RBI total for the season to 19. Keyes now has two homers and seven RBI in his last six games. Wilmer Difo also had two hits in the game for Harrisburg to elevate his average to .333 since joining Harrisburg.
Trenton loaded the bases with one out in the ninth and scored a run on an RBI groundout to make it a 4-2 Harrisburg lead. However, next batter Dan Fiorito launched a walk-off three-run home run to win the game. Harrisburg has now lost four games when holding the lead entering the ninth inning. The Senators are also 4-10 in one-run games.
In his third rehab appearance with Harrisburg, Casey Janssen started the game and pitched a scoreless inning. Regularly scheduled starter, Austin Voth, pitched the next 3.2 innings before the game went into the rain delay in the bottom of the fifth inning. Voth allowed a run in the fifth when Difo slipped at shortstop while trying to handle a groundball that would have been the third out of the inning. Out of the rain delay, Harrisburg's bullpen took over. Gilberto Mendez pitched a perfect 2.1 innings. In the eighth, a misplayed flyball and a walk put Brian Dupra in a jam with two outs, but he secured the final out with a groundball to finish the eighth.
Harrisburg will try to salvage the four-game set tomorrow afternoon in a 1:00 p.m. start. Joe Ross will be on the hill for the Senators. The game can be heard starting with the pregame show at 12:45 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
