Seattle Storm News Release

SEATTLE – The Seattle Storm today finalized their active roster in preparation for the 2004 WNBA season opener against the Minnesota Lynx at KeyArena tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

The Storm roster features six new players this year and now stands at 11 active players. Forward Trina Frierson, the team's first-round pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft, was placed on the injured list while she recovers from arthroscopic surgery on her left knee.

Led by second-year Head Coach Anne Donovan, 2003 WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson and two-time All-WNBA guard and U.S. Olympian Sue Bird, the Storm open their fifth season in the league against the team that kept them out of the 2002 WNBA Playoffs due to a tie-breaker.

"We are thrilled that Opening Night is finally upon us," Storm Chief Operating Officer Karen Bryant said. "With the addition of our new veteran players, the Storm is ready for playoff contention in the Western Conference. We look forward to hosting our Storm faithful at KeyArena all summer long."

In addition to Jackson, Bird and the Storm's first-ever draft pick Kamila Vodichkova, the team's new starting lineup is highlighted by Betty Lennox, selected sixth in the 2003 WNBA Dispersal Draft of the Cleveland Rockers roster, and Sheri Sam, who was acquired from Minnesota in a trade prior to the 2004 WNBA Draft in April.

The Storm finished the 2004 WNBA preseason with a 1-2 record after defeating the Phoenix Mercury 82-72 at KeyArena last Sunday night.
