Sioux City Explorers News Release
Back in November, the Sioux City Explorers dedicated their 2011 season to serving the Siouxland community with the Season of Giving campaign. With the team set and season underway, the Explorers have announced a week-long outreach event set to begin, Tuesday, May 31st . Each day over the six day stretch, the entire Explorers organization will reach out to acknowledge and support area organizations and groups. Outreach will often take place away from Lewis & Clark Park, allowing the Explorers to personally connect with community members in their personal settings. Throughout the season, the goal of the organization will be to inspire those we meet to follow their dreams and also inspire the Siouxland community to give back to others.
"As a member of the Siouxland community for 19 years, we want to give back to those who have supported us and make a difference while doing it. Having our players, coaches and staff out in the Siouxland community, gives them the opportunity to interact with community members," stated Sioux City Explorers ssistant General Manager, Ashley Schoenrock. "Our overall goal this year is to inspire other community members to give back, as well as provide our players with opportunities to make a difference and potentially gain life long friends."
During the week-long outreach event, the Explorers players, coaches and staff will be visiting kids in local hospitals, participating in the Sioux City Library Summer Reading Program, serving as 'Big's for a Day' with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland, assisting Habitat for Humanity in building a house for a Siouxland family, hosting a free baseball clinic, and ending the week by welcoming the Challenger Little League out to Lewis & Clark Park for a game with the X's.
"Having the players out in the community gives our fans a chance to get to know them on a personal basis," X's Field Manager, Stan Cliburn commented on the week-long event. "So that only makes them more excited to come out and watch the guys in action."
The entire Explorers organization, from the front office staff to the players and coaches, will be giving back to the community that has allowed them to continue their dream of working in and playing professional baseball.
In addition to the week-long outreach event, the Explorers will also partner with the Council of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, South Sioux City Public Library, Ponca Public Library, Iowa Donor Network, LifeServe Blood Bank, Children's Miracle Network and the June E. Nylen Cancer Center throughout the season to support these Siouxland organizations.
If you have an organization or cause you would like the Sioux City Explorers to become a part of or have questions in regards to the events above, please contact Ashley Schoenrock at (712) 277-9467.
