AMARILLO, Texas - The Sioux Falls Pheasants rode a late-inning surge on Friday night to a 10-6 comeback defeat of the Fort Worth Cats in Fort Worth. The Pheasants won for the second night in a row on a five-game Texas road trip.

Sioux Falls erased deficits of 2-0 and 6-2, scoring eight times in the seventh and eighth innings. Pheasants catcher Henry Contreras drove in four of those eight, including the go-ahead runs.

Trailing 6-2 in the seventh inning, Contreras doubled home Reggie Abercrombie and Gus Milner to cut the Fort Worth lead to 6-4. Joe Anthonsen followed with an RBI groundout to shave the difference to 6-5.

In the eighth inning, the Pheasants loaded the bases with one out. Milner hit a hard smash off the third baseman's glove, scoring Brandon Sing and tying the game at 6-6. Contreras then singled through the second base hole, plating Mark Shorey and Hunter Jobes. Anthonsen added an RBI groundout and Kevin Carby tacked on a run-scoring single to cap a five-run inning. Contreras went 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Pheasants bullpen walked the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the eighth, allowing the tying run to the plate. But Ryan Grant recorded the final two outs to escape any damage.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Pheasants reliever Ryan Fleckenstein (1-0) earned his first win of the season by tossing a scoreless 1 2/3 innings in the sixth and seventh innings. Fort Worth reliever Nick DeBarr suffered the loss for giving up the five-run eighth.

Abercrombie and Sing each went 3-for-5. Abercrombie whacked his third home run of the season, a two-out, two-run shot that tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth.

The finale of the brief two-game series concludes at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, in Ft. Worth. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and online at www.kwsn.com.
