Season-High Four Homers Power Fisher Cats Past 'Ponies, 9-4

Manchester, N.H. - Behind a season-high four home runs -- including two from top prospect Kevin Smith -- the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) overpowered the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets) 6-2 on Thursday night at Delta Dental Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 on a second-inning RBI single by Austin Bossart, the Fisher Cats went to work in the third.

After a two-out walk by Chad Spanberger, Riley Adams launched a hanging breaking ball into the left field seats to give New Hampshire a 2-1 lead. Smith led off the fourth inning with a homer to dead center field.

Binghamton got one back on an RBI single from Quinn Brodey in the top of the fifth, but the Fisher Cats re-extended the lead to 6-2 with a pair of homers in the home half.

Cullen Large led off with a triple, and Spanberger blasted a two-run homer over the fence in right center. Two batters later, Kevin Smith made it 6-2 with a mammoth home run to centerfield that banged off the top of the batter's eye.

Hector Perez worked the first four frames for the Fisher Cats, allowing one run on four hits.

William Ouellette (W, 2-2) gave up one run in his three relief innings, the only run he's surrendered in his last 12 innings.

Dustin Houle hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to bring Binghamton within 6-4, but the Fisher Cats responded with three runs in the home half on RBI singles from Large and Spanberger, plus a run-scoring error.

Danny Jimenez handled a hitless ninth, and extended his scoreless streak to 11.1 innings.

The Fisher Cats will meet the Rumble Ponies again on Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Thomas Hatch will take the mound for New Hampshire against Binghamton knuckleballer Mickey Jannis.
