Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Scott Seabol hit solo home runs in back-to-back at-bats and accounted for all of the Albuquerque scoring, but the Portland Beavers (20-14) managed to take their third-straight game over the Isotopes (22-13), 3-2, Thursday night at PGE Park.
Seabol continued to swing a hot bat, hitting solo homers in the fifth and seventh innings for the 'Topes. He finished the day 3-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. Since May 3, Seabol has homered seven times.
After the first of Seabol's home runs tied the score in the top of the fifth, Portland answered with two in the bottom half to take a lead they'd never let slip away. Seabol did homer again in the seventh to cut the deficit to one, but the 'Topes would get no closer.
Albuquerque starter Jeff Fulchino (2-2) was pinned with the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out four and walked just one. Portland starter Seth Etherton (1-1) was the winner, surrendering two runs on three hits. He struck out six and walked two. Brian Sikorski (5) came on in the final frame and struck out the side for his fifth save.
Seabol accounted for half of the Isotopes hit production on the night. Robert Andino, Tom Wilson and pinch-hitter Matt Cepicky all recorded one hit on the night.
Portland got on the board first, posting a quick run off Fulchino in the second inning. With one out in the inning, Jon Knott went deep to left, a solo shot that put the Beavers on top, 1-0. Albuquerque eventually responded when Seabol led off the fifth with a solo shot-marking Albuquerque's first run of the series.
The Beavers came right back in the bottom half, retaking the lead for good. With two men on and one out, Dustin Delucchi hit a two-run double to right-center, putting Portland ahead, 3-1.
In the seventh, Seabol did his part again, crushing a two-out homer to left to bring the 'Topes to within a run, 3-2. That was, however, as close as they'd get. Albuquerque put runners on the corners with one out in the eighth, but an Andino strikeout and a Mark Little fly out ended the threat. Seabol singled with two outs in the ninth, but Albuquerque couldn't bring him around.
The 'Topes and Beavers will meet once more in the finale of this four-game set with an 8:05 p.m. MT first pitch Friday at PGE Park. Albuquerque will send Renyel Pinto (3-0, 2.65) to the mound, and Portland will hand the ball off to Eric Junge (2-3, 5.68)
After this road swing through Portland and Tacoma, the 'Topes return to Isotopes Park for a 12-game homestand beginning May 18, featuring team poster night, hat night, and a lunchbox giveaway. Tickets are available at the Isotopes Park Box Office, Ticketmaster outlets and on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com. For details, please call (505) 924-2255.
