TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Sacramento River Cats are the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 2000. They were previously the Vancouver Canadians before moving to Sacramento after the 1999 season. The franchise has won PCL titles in 1999, 2003 and 2004. Last year, they lost in the PCL semifinals to Tacoma. They were 80-64 and finished first in the PCL Pacific Conference Southern Division.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue their eight-game homestand against Sacramento. This is their 34th game this season, 18th home game and third game against Sacramento.
LAST GAME: The RedHawks survived a late Sacramento rally to win 4-3. Oklahoma took a 4-1 lead in the 7th inning on a home run by Jason Botts. Sacramento scored two runs in the 8th to cut the lead to one. Oklahoma starter Edinson Volquez went seven innings and gave up one run on eight hits with five walks and six strikeouts. He earned his team-leading third win of the year. Aarom Baldiris was two-for-three with an RBI for the RedHawks.
VS. SACRAMENTO: The RedHawks are 24-26 all-time against Sacramento/Vancouver and 14-12 against the franchise at home. They are 17-17 since the club moved to Sacramento in 2000 and 10-8 against the River Cats at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Starting pitcher Rob Tejeda returns to the RedHawks after making two starts for Texas. He was 1-1 with 9.00 ERA (8 ER/8 IP) with seven walks and three strikeouts for Texas. His last start for the RedHawks was April 27 vs. Albuquerque. He had a no decision in a 2-0 loss. He went seven innings and gave up no runs on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Tejeda's start will be abbreviated and he will be followed by Nick Masset. Masset was 2-2 with a 2.57 ERA (10 ER/35 IP) in six starts for AA Frisco. Jason Windsor starts for Sacramento, making his Triple-A debut.
MIKE BOULANGER: Hitting coach Mike Boulanger has been named manager of the RedHawks effective today. Boulanger joined the RedHawks in 2005 and served as the team's hitting coach. Boulanger has been in the Rangers organization since 2003. He served two seasons as the hitting coach for A Clinton ( Iowa) ... He was an assistant at the University of Oklahoma from 1977-81. He was head coach of Oklahoma City University from 1982-83 before returning to OU from 1984-1987 as an assistant coach. He was head coach of Louisiana-Lafayette from 1987-1994.
STREAKERS: Outfielder Laynce Nix is on a seven-game hitting streak dating back to May 4. During the streak, he is 12-for-30 (.400) at the plate with six doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs. He has raised his batting average from .208 to .315 (107 rise) during the streak. Shortstop Joaquin Arias is on a six-game hitting streak dating back to May 1. He is 9-for-25 (.360) at the plate during the streak with a double and three RBIs. He has raised his average from .222 to .252 (30 rise) during the streak.
HOME SWEET HOME: Going back to July 22 of last season, the RedHawks are 29-13 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark (.690) including 1-1 in last year's playoffs against Nashville. They are 28-12 (.700) at home in regular season games since July 22.
ROAD WOES: The RedHawks are 2-14 (.125) on the road this year. They were 37-35 (.513) on the road last year. The worst road record in team history was 24-47 (.338) in 2000. It was the second worst road record in the PCL that year.
CLOSE GAMES: Nine of Oklahoma 's 11 wins this season have come by four runs or less, including six one-run wins. Also, 18 of Oklahoma 's 22 losses this season have come by four runs or less. They have six losses by one run, six losses by two runs, four losses by three runs and two losses by four runs.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: 2B Ian Kinsler has been assigned to the RedHawks on rehab ... P Nick Masset was promoted to Oklahoma from Frisco ... 1B Vincent Sinisi and P John Hudgins were traded to San Diego for OF Freddy Guzman and P Cesar Rojas ... OF/1B Jason Botts was named Texas' minor league player of the month for April. He hit .313 with three homers and 17 RBIs in 21 games in April.
