Metairie, LA - Beginning this Friday, May 12th Zephyr Field will host nine games in five days, as the New Orleans Zephyrs will play doubleheaders with college baseball Friday through Sunday and on Tuesday, May 16th with the Wally Pontiff, Jr. Baseball Classic.

"This will be a great showcase for our ballpark," said Zephyrs GM Mike Schline. "Fans will really get a chance to watch great baseball and enjoy the new amenities at Zephyr Field, such as the new scoreboard and the recently-completed sound system."

The Zephyrs will play at 7:00 PM Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the Tulane Green Wave playing their series against Southern Miss at 12:00 PM Friday and Saturday and 1:00 PM Sunday. All college baseball fans that purchased a ticket to the Tulane-Southern Miss games can also redeem those for a free Zephyrs ticket that night.

On Tuesday, May 16th, the Zephyrs will take on the Sacramento Rivercats at 12:00 PM and LSU and Rice will play in the third-annual Wally Pontiff, Jr. Baseball Classic.

"We are very honored to be playing this game at Zephyr Field," said Wally Pontiff. "This is a big game between LSU and Rice with Rice ranked #1 in the country. We're going to have a great crowd and it's going to be great for the Wally Pontiff Jr. Foundation.

"The New Orleans Zephyrs have been really terrific working with us and great working with the Foundation each of the last three years."

Pontiff Jr., who died unexpectedly on July 24, 2002, was a three-year letterman for LSU. He was the designated hitter on LSU's 2000 NCAA championship team, and was the Tigers' starting third baseman in 2001 and 2002. Pontiff was named to the 2002 District VI Academic all-America team, and he was a two-time member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Some of the charities and non-profit organizations in the community the Wally Pontiff Jr. Foundation supports are Jefferson Parish Recreation Department, Camp Summer Tribe, LSU Scholarship Programs, and Sisters Servants of Mary.
