
Late rally sparks Tucson to 9-2 win over Nashville

Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - Tucson rallied for 5 runs in the seventh to give the Sidewinders a 9-2 win. The victory gives Nippert a 5-0 record and puts Tucson one under .500 with a record of 17-18.
Nashville scored the first run in the second when 1B Brad Nelson doubled to right. Two batters later, SS Enrique Cruz blooped a single just past the infield in right to score Nelson, to give the Sounds a 1-0 lead.
The Sidewinders took the lead in the bottom half of the second. 1B Chris Carter singled to left-center. RF Robby Hammock singled to right, moving Carter to third. With two outs, RHP Dustin Nippert helped his cause by poking a single up the middle, scoring Carter and moving Hammock to second. Hammock moved to third and Nippert went to second on a botched pick-off attempt between RHP Mike Meyers and Enrique Cruz at second. 2B Alberto Callaspo then hit a double to left-center, to plate Hammock and Nippert to put Tucson on top 3-1.
Nashville came within one in the top of the sixth. 2B Brent Abernathy singled and moved to third on a Hart single. 3B Jermaine Clark grounded into a double play, scoring Abernathy from third.
In the bottom half of the sixth, Tucson answered Nashville's run with one of their own. C Juan Brito doubled to center and moved to third base on a wild pitch by RHP Brett Evert. PH Matt Erickson singled to left-center to score Brito and give the Sidewinders a 4-2 lead.
Tucson added 5 more runs in the bottom of the seventh. CF Carlos Quentin got the rally started when he was hit by a pitch in his fourth straight game. LF Scott Hairston doubled to left putting runners at second and third. Carter was intentionally walked to load the bases. 3B Brian Barden hit a 405 foot single to center, scoring Quentin. Hammock followed that up with a two-run double to right. Brito singled to left, scoring two more runs and giving The Sidewinders a 9-2 lead.
Nippert picked up the victory going 6 innings and giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and a walk. He struck out 5. Meyers got the loss for Nashville, allowing 4 runs, 3 earned in 5 1/3 innings pitched. He conceded 9 hits and walked 5 batters.
The series between the Sounds and Sidewinders concludes tomorrow at 6:30. The action can be heard live on Cool 1450-AM.
