Express Can't Solve Rainiers in Second Straight Loss
May 11, 2006 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
Express starter Roberto Giron could not get comfortable on Tacoma's Cheney Stadium mound Thursday evening, and his teammates stranded the bases loaded in the first inning, setting the tone for Round Rock's second straight loss to the Rainiers, 7-3.
After the Express (20-12) failed to score in the first, Tacoma made Giron pay with two outs in the bottom of the inning, putting up two runs on a double from third baseman Mike Morse.
Round Rock cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth on a one-out triple from first baseman Royce Huffman and an RBI single from right fielder Brian Gordon.
But in the bottom of the fourth, Giron gave up two solo homers that chased him from the game and gave Tacoma a 4-1 lead.
Round Rock picked up its second run in the top of the seventh when Gordon doubled and catcher Humberto Quintero drove him in with an RBI single.
All night, Tacoma had an answer. The Rainiers put up two runs on four hits against three Express pitchers in the seventh to make it 7-2.
Round Rock got a lead-off double from Huffman and a two-out, RBI double from designated hitter Alan Zinter for what turned out to the Round Rock's final run of the night, making it a final of 7-3.
The fourth and final game of the series begins tomorrow night at 8:05 Central time with Express left-hander Philip Barzilla on the hill.
