Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Portland, ME) - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats completed a four-game sweep of the Portland Sea Dogs with a 9-4 victory on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs finished 3-6 on their 9-game homestand and fall four games behind New Hampshire for the second playoff spot in the Northern Division.
New Hampshire scored eight runs with two outs, including five off Kyle Jackson (3-5) in the seventh inning to snap a 4-4 tie. Rob Cosby had the go-ahead hit with an RBI single to score Aaron Mathews. Jackson walked the next two batters and surrendered a grand slam to Ryan Patterson on a 1-1 pitch. Patterson homered in the final three games of the series and drove in 10.
Jesse Carlson (6-1) earned the win for New Hampshire despite recording only two outs in the sixth inning. Seth Overbey worked three scoreless innings to notch his first Double-A save.
The four-game sweep by New Hampshire marked their first in the franchise's history at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs have been swept twice this season in a four-game set at home (May 10-13 vs. Binghamton).
Dusty Brown had two hits and blasted a three-run homer in the sixth inning to tie the game at four. Brown's fifth home run chased Kyle Yates out of the game after five and 1/3 innings. Yates surrendered nine hits, four runs and fanned three.
Daniel Haigwood made his 100th professional start and gave up six hits, four runs in five and 2/3 innings. Portland took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Eric Crozier's run-scoring bloop-single to left field. New Hampshire came right back and scored twice off Haigwood in the third inning on RBI doubles by Juan Peralta and Robinzon Diaz. The âCats grabbed a 4-1 on Dustin Majewski's two-out, 2-run single that ended the night for Haigwood.
Portland went 2-for-10 with runners-in-scoring position and finished the series 5-for-41 (.122). Cory Keylor had three hits and made a nice running catch with the bases loaded in the fourth inning. Bryan Pritz had two hits and scored twice, raising his average to .293 (tops on the club).
The Sea Dogs begin a four-game series in three days, traveling to New Britain on Wednesday afternoon to play a twinbill at New Britain Stadium. LHP Andrew Dobies and RHP T.J. Nall will make the starts in the doubleheader for Portland.
