Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Jose Sanchez gave the Binghamton Mets seven strong innings on the mound, but he didn't get any run support in a 2-0 loss to the Connecticut Defenders at Dodd Stadium Tuesday. The B-Mets lost the last two games of the four-game set.

Tyler Von Schell did all of Connecticut's (34-49) scoring, leading off the second with a homer before singling in the fourth and scoring on Simon Klink's two-out triple. Sanchez (1-4) didn't walk a batter and struck out four. Kevin Tomasiewicz followed with a 1-2-3 inning of relief, fanning two.

The B-Mets (34-47) had eight hits off Connecticut starter Brooks McNiven - including two apiece in the first and fourth - but they were unable to push a run across. McNiven (4-3) allowed two hits apiece to Mark Kiger and J.E. Cruz over his seven innings of work. Osiris Matos retired six of seven he faced over two innings, notching his fourth save in five chances.

Wednesday, the B-Mets start a six-game homestand, opening a three-game set vs. the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Marcos Carvajal (2-6, 4.94) will start for the B-Mets against lefty Kurt Isenberg (3-4, 5.18) of New Hampshire. Game time is 7:05 from NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: The B-Mets have been shut out six times this season...Sanchez had lasted 6+ innings and allowed three runs or fewer in his last six starts, but is 0-1 over that stretch.
