Patterson Grand Slam Propels Fisher Cats

Portland, ME- Ryan Patterson belted a grand slam home run off Kyle Jackson with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 9-4 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs and a sweep of the four-game series at Hadlock Field.

Patterson (3-for-4, GS, 4 RBI, 3 R), whose grand slam was the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game, homered for the third consecutive game and drove in four runs for the second straight night. It was also his second grand slam of the season. The 24-year-old LSU product added a single and a double as part of his 3-for-4 night.

New Hampshire (45-37) scored five times in the seventh, all after there were two outs and no one on base. Aaron Mathews (1-for-5, 2B, R) stretched his hitting streak to nine games when Sea Dogs' left-fielder Bryan Pritz lost his footing tracking a fly ball, falling down and allowing the ball to drop in for a double.

Rob Cosby (1-for-4, RBI, R, BB) then broke a 4-4 tie by singling to left, scoring Mathews. Jackson then issued consecutive walks to David Smith (0-for-3, 2 BB, R) and Chip Cannon (1-for-3, 2 R, 2 BB), setting the stage for Patterson's grand slam over the right-centerfield fence.

Jesse Carlson (6-1) worked 0.2 innings of relief for the victory, and Seth Overbey worked three scoreless innings to notch his first career Eastern League save. Overbey allowed one hit and worked around three walks. He struck out one.

Jackson (3-4), a Litchfield (NH) native, allowed five runs on three hits and two walks in one inning to suffer the loss.

Portland (40-40) rallied from a 4-1 deficit against Kyle Yates in the bottom of the sixth inning when Andrew Pinckney and Pritz each singled, and Dusty Brown (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) stroked his fifth home run of the year, a three-run blast off the message board in left-centerfield, tying the game, 4-4.

Yates went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.

The Fisher Cats erased a 1-0 deficit in the top of the third inning against Sea Dogs' starter Daniel Haigwood on RBI doubles from Juan Peralta (1-for-4, 2B, R, RBI) and Robinzon Diaz (1-for-5, 2B, RBI), giving New Hampshire a 2-1 lead.

The lead was stretched to 4-1 in the top of the sixth inning against Haigwood when Dustin Majewski (1-for-4, 2 RBI) drove in Cannon (walk) and Patterson (double) with a two-out single to left-centerfield.

Eric Crozier (2-for-3, RBI, BB) staked Portland to a short-lived 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning that brought in Pritz from third base.

The Fisher Cats complete their first-ever four-game sweep in Portland and extend their winning streak to a season-high six straight games. New Hampshire opens a three-game series in Binghamton on Independence Day when left-hander Kurt Isenberg (3-4, 5.18) takes the NYSEG Stadium mound against Mets' right-hander Marcos Carvajal (2-6, 4.94) in a 7:05pm game.
