'DOGS LOOKING TO BITE BACK': The Sea Dogs have lost the first three games of their series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats...Coming into the series, the Dogs and Cats were tied for the final playoff spot in the Northern Division...Now Portland sits three games out of that final spot...After tonight's game, the Sea Dogs hit the road for four games in three days with New Britain and then on to New Hampshire for a three game set before the All-Star Break.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Tommy Hottovy (2-8) gave up five runs in the top of the 1st inning, as the Fisher Cats cruised to a 13-3 victory over Portland. Hottovy ended up going 5 innings, and allowed 12 hits and 9 runs. For Hottovy, the 12 hits and 9 runs allowed were both career highs. Bryan Pritz knocked in both of the Dogs runs, as he smacked home Dusty Brown on a Maine Monster double in the 3rd, and singled home Cory Keylor in the 8th. Robinzon Diaz, Aaron Mathews, and Dustin Majewski each had 3 hits in the contest for New Hampshire, and each Fisher Cats starter had at least two hits. New Hampshire clubbed two home runs in the game - Ryan Patterson a 3-run shot in the 1st and Juan Peralta a 2-run shot in the 3rd.
JUNE WRAPUP: The Sea Dogs went 15-15 during June, hitting .271 and compiling a 3.53 team ERA...Buchholz was 4-1, 1.69 is six starts, fanning 46 in 34 innings...Jed Lowrie led the team in hitting with a .333 average and smacked 11 doubles and 4 triples...Eric Crozier led the team with four home runs and Jeff Natale knocked in 22 runs, playing in all 30 games.
NOT BRINGIN' EM IN!: The Sea Dogs have left 33 runners on base through the first three games of the series...They have also hit a paltry .096 (3-for-31) with runners-in-scoring position in the first three games against New Hampshire...Bryan Pritz had both of the Dogs hits with RISP yesterday.
THE BUCK IS NOT STOPPING HERE: Clay Buchholz established a franchise record by striking out 46 batters in June...Earlier today, Buchholz was named the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week, by going 1-0, 0.79 in two starts and fanning 15...Charlie Zink was selected as the E.L Pitcher of the week last week, marking the third time in franchise history that Sea Dogs pitchers earned the honor in consecutive weeks...Jonathan Papelbon and Jon Lester (June 27th- July 3rd and July 4th- July 10th, 2005)...Josh Beckett and Hansel Izquierdo (August 13th-August 19th and August 20th- August 26th, 2001)
