Wolves Down Aeros in Front of Largest Crowd of Season

The SeaWolves scored four early runs and never trailed in Tuesday night's game against the Akron Aeros as they salvaged the final game of the series with a 5-3 victory.

The SeaWolves struck first in the bottom of the third inning. Clete Thomas singled with one out for his second hit of the game and Andres Torres walked to put two aboard for Mike Hollimon. Hollimon lined a single to left, scoring Thomas for the game's first run. With two outs, Matt Joyce lined a single to right, scoring on the play was Torres for a 2-0 lead. On the play, a throwing error by Brian Barton allowed Hollimon to score from first, putting the ‘Wolves up 3-0. Erie would cap off a four-run inning with an RBI single from Steve Torrealba for a 4-0 lead.

The Aeros got on the board in the top of the fifth inning against starter Eddie Bonine. Rodney Choy Foo led off the inning and slammed his third home run of the series and seventh of the season, cutting the Erie lead down to three at 4-1.

Akron would again cut into the ‘Wolves lead in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Roman Colon. Trevor Crowe led off the inning with a double and a single by Asdrubal Cabrera put runners on first and third. Cabrera would reach second on a wild pitch to put two in scoring position for Brian Barton. Barton grounded out to Hollimon for the first out of the inning, but on the play, Crowe scored from third for the Aeros second run of the game. Pinch hitter Jordan Brown then grounded out to first, scoring Cabrera from third, cutting Erie's lead to a run at 4-3.

The ‘Wolves would go back on top by two runs in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Jeff Stevens. Joyce led off the inning and worked the count full before slamming his 10th home run of the season. The opposite field shot put Erie head 5-3.

Bonine (8-4) went 6.1 innings for the ‘Wolves in picking up his eighth win of the year. Bonine yielded a run on seven hits, he walked one and struck out two.

Roman Colon picked up his first save of the season tossing the final two innings of the game. Colon gave up a pair of runs in the eighth but got the final three outs in the ninth to seal the win for the ‘Wolves.

LARGEST CROWD OF THE SEASON

Tuesday night's game was witnessed by the largest crowd of the season at Jerry Uht Park. 6,382 fans came through the turnstyles for the game.
