
Sea Dogs lose in extras

(Portland, ME) - The New Britain Rock Cats (32-37) scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning and beat the Portland Sea Dogs (38-31), 9-6 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs have dropped 11 of their last 17 games but remain 4 1/2 games behind Trenton for the top spot in the Northern Division.
The Rock Cats scored three unearned runs off Beau Vaughan (1-1) in the top of the 11th to grab the win. David Winfree led off the inning by reaching on an error by SS Iggy Suarez. Felix Molina and Drew Butera reached base on bunts. Molina took first base safely on a sacrifice and an error by Vaughan. Butera was successful on a bunt-single when Vaughan fell down trying to field the bunt. Brian Dinkelman drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly. Danny Valencia had a bases-loaded walk and Erik Lis delivered a run-scoring fielder's choice.
Ben Julianel (1-2) worked two perfect innings to earn the win for New Britain. The Rock Cats' bullpen retired 16 of 17 batters faced to end the game. Portland's bullpen allowed four runs (one earned) over 7.2 IP.
The game was tied at five after three innings due to both starters surrendering five runs. Matt Goodson was tagged for nine hits and four walks over 3.1 IP. Lis blasted a 2-run homer and an RBI-single off Goodson. Kyle Aselton walked seven on four hits in just 2.2 IP. The lefty issued three bases-loaded walks; two by Tony Granadillo and the third to Jeff Corsaletti. Portland tied the game at five in the third inning when Corsaletti picked up a run-scoring infield single off Jay Sawatski.
New Britain went ahead 6-5 in the sixth inning when Brock Peterson greeted Chad Rhoades with a solo-homer. Mark Wagner tied the game at 6-6 with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Rhoades worked two innings for Portland, allowing one run on three hits. Daniel Bard fired two scoreless frames on one hit and a walk. New Britain's Robert Delaney made his Double-A debut and pitched two perfect innings.

Notes...Aaron Bates went 2-for-4, 3B, 2B...Bubba Bell extended his hitting streak to 9-games...Goodson tied a season-high in hits allowed by a pitcher (9).
