Aerodynamics...

Start Another...After an 11-2 loss to New Hampshire that snapped their 10-game winning streak, the Aeros bounced right back last night, knocking off the Baysox 7-2 while also moving into a virtual tie with Bowie for first place in the Southern Division at 40-27. The Aeros got tremendous pitching from starter Kevin Dixon, who tied up the Baysox for seven innings and allowed just two runs on six hits, with two walks and two strikeouts. The right-hander's only jam came in the third when the Baysox put together a two-out rally with a single and a pair of walks to load the bases for Lou Montanez, who knocked a two-run double. Outside of that inning though, Dixon shut Bowie down on four scattered singles. Dixon leads the Aeros with seven quality starts and the club is 9-4 when he starts. He gave way to newcomer RHP Jim Deters, who combined with RHP T.J. Burton and RHP Randy Newsom to finish the game and keep Bowie off the board in the final two innings.

Tater Salad...The Aeros offense produced a balanced attack last night in scoring its seven runs, as eight starters had at least one hit and the 2-5 hitters in the order were a combined 7-16 with three home runs, four runs scored, five RBI, and four walks. The Aeros tacked on single runs in the first, second, and third innings, taking advantage of an error and a wild pitch in the first two. In the first, 2B Josh Rodriguez and C Chris Gimenez walked and 3B Wes Hodges grounded into a potential double play ball, but Bowie's Jonathan Tucker threw the relay away, allowing Rodriguez to score. In the second, SS Brandon Chaves drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Bowie starter Chorye Spoone. Jose Constanza singled him home to give Akron a 2-0 lead. Reigning EL Player of the Week Wes Hodges led off the third with his ninth homer of the season, Gimenez pounded a three-run homer in the fourth to give the Aeros a 6-2 lead, and Rodriguez added more insurance in the sixth with his own lead-off homer to make it 7-2.

Stolen Property...For the first time since May 29th, the Aeros stole multiple bases in a game last night. Constanza stole his 14th base of the season, Crowe stole his sixth, and RF Bronson Sardinha lifted his first of the year. Before last night, Akron had just one stolen base in all of June (Crowe stole second base on June 13th vs. Portland). Despite just the four thefts in June, the Aeros still rank eighth in the Eastern League with 40 steals on the year. Constanza is the team leader with 14 on the year in 19 chances, Rodriguez is seven for 12 on the season, and Crowe is six for nine.

Did You Know...C Chris Gimenez has reached base via a hit or a walk in 51 of 54 games this year, with the lone exceptions coming April 29th vs. Erie, May 9th vs. Trenton, and June 13th vs. Portland (meaning he's reached in all 23 road games).
