
Senators eek out close win

Harrisburg, PA - It took a few innings, but the Harrisburg Senators offense erupted in a 9-8 victory over the Trenton Thunder, Wednesday at Commerce Bank Park. The Senators plated five runs in the 5th inning to rally from an early deficit.
The Thunder jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the 2nd inning. A two-run homer in the 3rd by Jose Tabata made it 5-0.
Harrisburg got the bats going in the bottom of the 3rd. Seth Bynum clubbed a leadoff double and Roger Bernadina reached on an infield single and stole second. Back-to-back RBI groundouts by Marco Yepez and Mike Daniel cut the margin to 5-2.
A solo shot by Trenton's Ramiro Pena in the 4th expanded the gap to 6-2, but Harrisburg saved its best for the middle innings.
In the 5th, the Senators notched five runs to take the lead. With runners at first and second and nobody out, Bernadina laid down a sacrifice bunt, but Trenton starter Jason Jones wheeled and fired a wild throw to third base, allowing both runners to score and cut it to 6-4. Yepez followed with an RBI groundout to make it a 6-5 game. After a strikeout, Luis Jimenez walked and Luke Montz doubled to score Jimenez and tie the game. Andrew LeFave dumped an RBI single into right to give Harrisburg its first lead of the game at 7-6.
The Senators kept the momentum in the 6th. Bynum and Bernadina led off with back-to-back doubles to make it 8-6 and two batters later, Mike Daniel singled to right to drive home Bernadina and expand the lead to 9-6.
Trenton kept it close in the 8th. Reegie Corona hit a two-out RBI single to cut it to 9-7. In the 9th, Cody Ehlers bounced an RBI single up the middle to make it 9-8. With the tying run at third base and two out, RHP Zech Zinicola retired the next batter to end the game.
RHP Bobby Brownlie picked up the win to move to 5-0 with the Senators. Zinicola notched his sixth save. Jones (8-3) took the loss for Trenton.
The Senators improved to 38-31. Trenton fell to 43-27.
The series continues Thursday at Commerce Bank Park. Harrisburg RHP Jordan Zimmermann (1-1, 3.44 ERA) duels Trenton LHP Phil Coke (4-2, 3.03 ERA) in a 6:35 PM start.
