Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - The Reading Phillies scored late in comeback fashion in both games to sweep a twinight doubleheader at Blair County Ballpark on Wednesday night. Altoona fell 6-4 in the first game and the R-Phils took the second contest, 4-1.
In game one, the Curve bullpen wasn't able to hold a 4-3 lead heading into the seventh inning. Reading scored three unanswered runs - including one in the top of the seventh to knot the score, 4-4 which forced extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Pat Bresnehan (0-1) allowed a pair of runs which would allow the Phillies to prevail.
Josh Hill tossed six innings and allowed three runs. The Australian-born righty scattered seven hits over that span.
The nightcap featured a low scoring affair throughout most of the game. The Curve were able to score early with a run in the bottom of the first. Altoona secured an unearned run thanks to Jonel Pacheco's ability to reach on a ground ball that was mishandled by Reading third baseman Neil Sellers. He later came around to score on a base hit by Melvin Dorta to put the Curve up 1-0.
Altoona (30-39) held the advantage until the top of the fifth inning until R-Phils catcher Kevin Nelson lead off the frame with a solo home run to left field, which knotted the score, 1-1. Reading would add a trio of runs in the top of the seventh that proved too much for the Curve to overcome.
Reading right-hander Patrick Overholt (2-2) tossed the final three innings of the game in relief to secure the victory. Juan Mateo (2-1) suffered the loss after the righty gave up all four Reading runs over three innings.
Kyle Bloom started for the Curve and tossed four scoreless innings.
The Curve return to action on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. to try to even the series with Reading (27-41). The Curve will give the ball to lefty Corey Hamman (3-5, 3.83). Right-hander Tyson Brummett (NR) will make his Double-A debut for the R-Phils.
Two-time Curve M.V.P Adam Hyzdu will be at Blair County Ballpark on Thursday night. Hyzdu will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, meet with fans and sign autographs on the concourse during the game. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive an Adam Hyzdu Bobblehead Doll courtesy of Dodge.
Great seats for Thursday's game and the remaining games of the homestand, which lasts through Sunday, are still available and can be obtained over the phone at 1-877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the BCB box office.
