âDOGS HOPE TO GETEVEN:Portland looks for a split of their 4‐game set with the Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Waterfront Park...Today is Portland's final regular season game in Trenton, the two rivals will meet one more time at Hadlock Field from September 1‐3...Tomorrow night, the âDogs open up a 5‐ game series in four days against the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins affiliate) at New Britain Stadium.
CAN'T HOLD ON: The Portland Sea Dogs squandered a 6‐0 lead in the series opener and on Saturday night, an early 4‐0 lead was not enough, losing to the Trenton Thunder 6‐5 in front of a sellout crowd of 7,837. Portland scored four times in the third inning off starter RHP Kanekoa Texeira to take a 4‐0 lead. LF Ryan Kalish drove in the first run with a single and 3B Jorge Jimenez doubled home a run. DH Jon Still clocked a 2‐run double with two outs and leads the Red Sox system with 54 RBI. LHP Dustin Richardson allowed a grand slam to C Jesus Montero in the seventh to tie the game at four. Trenton added the go‐ahead runs on errors by SS Argenis Diaz.
THAT'S A NEW SEASON HIGH: Portland tied a season‐high by striking out 14 times in the series opener...Last night Trenton pitchers fanned 15 batters and has 35 strikeouts over the first three games of the series...Portland struck out 15 times against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on May 20, 2008 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. TRENTON'S âPEN: The Thunder bullpen has worked 16.1 innings during the three game series and allowed one unearned run, scattering 10 hits, 4 walks but fanning 22...The Sea Dogs scored an unearned run against RHP Grant Duff in the 8th inning last night to tie the game at five. NOT MUCH AFTER THE FOURTH: Portland had three baserunners after the third inning last night and was shutdown in the 9th by RHP Jose Valdez for the second time in the series...RHP Jarod Plummer worked five scoreless frames for Portland on four hits.
AGAINST THE NORTH: Portland is 12‐12 during a 33‐game stretch against the Northern Division...The Sea Dogs start a 26‐game run against the South on July 27.
TOMORROW'S STARTERS: RHP Adam Mills seeks his 5th straight win in the series opener against the Rock Cats on Monday night in New Britain...Mills is 5‐2, 1.96 ERA since June 4 and has not allowed a run in his last 13 IP...New Britain has not named their starter for game one of a 5‐game series.
