Chesapeake Baysox News Release

AKRON, Oh. - Akron left fielder Matt McBride reached base four times and drove in three runs as the Aeros downed the Baysox 7-3. With the game tied in heading into the bottom of the seventh, Akron erupted for four runs against the Baysox bullpen including a two-run blast by McBride to pull away. Designated hitter Ambiorix Concepcion had all three RBI for the Baysox, but it was not enough as they fall to 52-43 on the season.

The Baysox jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings against Aeros starter Michael Tejera. Center fielder Danny Figueroa reached on an infield single with one out in the first inning, scoring on a two-out RBI single by Concepcion to put the Baysox on the board. In the third inning, third baseman Jason White singled to start the inning and came around to score an RBI fielder's choice by Concepcion.

Akron put a run on the board in the bottom of the third inning against Baysox starter Brandon Erbe. Kyle Haines led off the inning with a single. Erbe retired the next two batters but Matt McBride came through with a two-out RBI double into left field to bring home Haines and cut the deficit in half.

The Aeros offense took advantage of the free pass as they came back to take the lead in the fourth inning. Erbe walked three batters in the inning as Haines and Cristo Arnal both brought runs across to give Akron a 3-2 lead. Walks have been a killer for Baysox pitchers against the Aeros this season, allowing 102 free passes to Akron hitters in 22 games this season.

Figueroa and Concepcion struck again in the top of the fifth inning as the Baysox tied the score. After a single to center field with one out, Figueroa stole second base to put a runner in scoring position. Concepcion brought him across with an RBI single to tie the score at three and give the Baysox designated hitter his 34th RBI of the season. Figueroa had his way with Akron pitching during the four-game set, going 11-for-16 with six runs scored, four RBI and two stolen bases.

The game remained tied until Akron broke it open in the sixth inning off Baysox right-hander Zachary Clark. Armando Camacaro singled to lead off the inning and scored on a one-out triple by Jose Constanza. After getting Arnal to ground out for the second out of the inning, McBride got a hold of the Clark offering for his eighth home run of the season. Carlos Santana followed with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Beau Mills to continue the rally. Carlos Rivero singled to bring home Santana and finish off the scoring for the Aeros. Clark did not allow a run in his first three appearances on the season, but has been tagged for eight earned runs over his last two outings, raising his ERA on the season to 5.14.

Zach Putnam and Neil Wagner closed out the Baysox over the final three innings to preserve the win. The Baysox lost three of four to the first place Aeros over the weekend, falling to 7.0 games out for the Southern Division lead.

Bowie will travel to Harrisburg tomorrow and begin a four-game set with the Senators. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
