- Let's Take Two...The Aeros won their second game in a row against the Baysox following a season-high six-game losing streak, taking game three of this four-game series by the final count of 5-3 last night with 4,809 fans in attendance for Matt LaPorta bobble head night. The result was not as dramatic as Carlos Santana's game-winning two-run blast Friday, but the final product was just as sweet as the Aeros broke open a 3-3 tie in walking style as Bowie reliever Chad Thall permitted the go-ahead free pass in the sixth. Three more walks and an RBI knock by 1B Beau Mills in the eighth provided for the final margin as the Akron relievers sealed the deal by retiring all nine batters they faced, with RHP Josh Judy earning his third save. - Double Digit Difference...It was the first time all year that the Aeros pounded out double digit totals in both hits and walks (10 of each), as the team matched a record set twice previously for walks in a game. In the previous two contests Akron collected 10 walks the team won by the final count of 12-7 on April 11th and 12-8 June 5th, but only picked up six and nine hits, respectively. On the season the Aeros are a perfect 13-0 when walking seven or more times, and Akron pitchers did not issue a single free pass yesterday. The Aeros have now out-walked the Baysox 93-42 in 21 games between the two teams. - Closing The Door...Not only did the Akron bullpen retire nine batters in a row at the end, but starting pitcher Jeanmar Gomez retired the final five hitters he faced en route to his seventh quality start. Coupled with the efforts of relievers Carlton Smith and Josh Judy, Akron set down the final 14 Baysox hitters in order while offensively the Aeros had at least one runner in every inning (resulting in a season-high tying 14 runners left on base). Judy continued his recent hot pitching, as the right-hander has not allowed a run in his last eight innings, with four hits, no walks, and 15 strikeouts over that span as well. Judy also leads the pitching staff with 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings. - Constanza Charging...Leading the way for Akron yet again yesterday was CF Jose Constanza, who finished 3-3 with a pair of walks and two steals for his first multi-steal game since May 9th. The 25-year-old native of the Dominican Republic has been one of the hottest players in the Eastern League recently dating back to the beginning of the four-game series at Erie last weekend. Constanza is batting .450 (9-20) with 13 walks in his last seven games after totaling just 29 walks in his first 78 games, and his on-base percentage has jumped 29 points over this stretch and ranks third on the team at .375 for the year. - Did You Know...Aeros LF Nick Weglarz tallied a walk in each of his final four plate appearances yesterday, the second time this season he has tied the franchise-record with four walks in a game. Prior to the 21-year-old Canadian's four-walk games this season, Jason Cooper and Corey Smith were the last Akron players to accomplish this feat as they both did so July 16th, 2004.
