New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- David Cooper's go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning put the New Hampshire Fisher Cats ahead for good in a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over the Connecticut Defenders Sunday afternoon in front of a standing-room-only crowd of 6,861 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Adam Calderone belted his 10th home run of the year, and Nick Gorneault went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the win.
New Hampshire starter Randy Boone was solid on the mound, allowing just one earned run on five hits and two walks in 6.2 innings.
In his second rehab appearance with the Fisher Cats, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Casey Janssen (1-0) came out of the bullpen to earn the win. Janssen pitched 1.1 hitless innings while allowing a walk and an unearned run.
Danny Farquhar recorded his seventh save of the season by working a perfect ninth inning and striking out two.
The Defenders (54-40) grabbed a 1-0 in the fifth when Bobby Felmy led off with a walk and later scored on a single by Mike Mooney.
Gorneault led off the seventh with a single, and Calderone promptly followed with a blast over the right field fence to give New Hampshire (44-50) a 2-1 lead. Connecticut tied the game in the eighth when Sharlon Schoop led off with a walk and later scored on an errant throw to first base by Janssen.
Scott Campbell (1-for-3, R, BB) drew a one-out walk in the eighth and advanced to third on a double by Brad Emaus (3-for-4, R, 2B). Cooper singled to left field, scoring Campbell and giving New Hampshire a 3-2 lead. Gorneault doubled home Emaus for the 4-2 final.
