Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Manchester, New Hampshire - The Portland Sea Dogs fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in both games tonight at Delta Dental Stadium. The first game, the Sea Dogs fell 6-3 after the two teams completed the suspended game from July 4th. In the previously scheduled game, Portland staged a late-innings comeback but fell a run shy, 6-5. The Sea Dogs fall to 56-45 while the Fisher Cats improve to 49-50.

With the continuation of the suspended game, the Sea Dogs' previous winning streak officially stands at 14 games. The suspended game followed the first win of the winning streak, but with the loss it now does not factor into the streak. The 14-consecutive wins remain a franchise-record for Portland.

The suspended game began in the top of the fourth inning, tied 3-3. The Fisher Cats were first to strike in the bottom of the inning. Demi Orimoloye and Nick Podkul reached on back-to-back singles. A two-run double by Chavez Young brought them home and the Fisher Cats led, 5-3.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Young singled to left field. He then stole second base, but Portland's catcher Kole Cottam overthrew to second base and Young advanced to third. On the next pitch, Matthew Kent tossed a wild pitch in the dirt and Young scored. Portland continued to trail, 6-3.

Kent was given the loss pitching 3.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out one. Jeremy Beasley was awarded the win pitching 1.0 shutout and hitless inning walking one and striking out two.

In game two, the Fisher Cats plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning. After back-to-back walks issued to Tanner Kirwer and Samad Taylor, a two-run double by Vinny Capra brought them both home and New Hampshire led, 2-0. Capra then scored on an RBI double by Jordan Groshans. Chavez Young singled home Groshans and the Fisher Cats led, 4-0. Young came around to score on an RBI groundout by Brock Lundquist. Portland trailed 5-0 after the first inning.

Ronaldo Hernandez connected for his 14th home run of the year with a two-run blast in the top of the fourth inning. After Hudson Potts singled to left field, he scored on an RBI single to centerfield by Cameron Cannon and the Sea Dogs continued to trail, 5-3.

The Fisher Cats struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning. After a two-out walk drawn by Chris Bec, he came around to score on a groundball by Tanner Kirwer and New Hampshire led, 6-3.

Despite a two-run home run by Danny Santana with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, the Sea Dogs fell, 6-5.

Maximo Castillo was awarded his 11th win of the season pitching 6.0 innings allowing three runs on five hits while walking one and striking out eight. Chris Murphy was given the loss tossing 5.0 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits while walking a career-high five batters and striking out four.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats will meet again tomorrow, Wednesday September 1 at 7:05 at Delta Dental Stadium. RHP Brayan Bello (0-3, 4.86 ERA) will take the mound for Portland while New Hampshire will send RHP Nick Fraze (1-0, 3.86 ERA) to the bump.
