Early Quacktion Lifts 'Ducks Over Altoona on Tuesday Night

AKRON, Ohio - Cal Mitchell knocked his 18th double of the season to plate two runners in the seventh inning, but Altoona's offense was kept quiet as the RubberDucks coasted to an 11-2 victory on Tuesday night at Canal Park.
With two runners on base, Mitchell knocked the double to right field off reliever Joey Cantillo to score Ji-Hwan Bae and Matt Fraizer. Mitchell, who also made a fantastic diving catch to save a run in the first inning, extended his on-base streak to a season-high 18 games in the loss. He is now three games shy of the team high on the season of 21 games, set by Oneil Cruz.
Akron's offense got going early off Curve starter Trey McGough. The RubberDucks scored five runs in two innings off McGough, his shortest start of the season. He walked a batter and gave up six singles in the second inning to give Akron a 5-0 lead. Akron scored a run in the first inning on an RBI-double from Cleveland Indians rehabbing catcher Roberto Perez. Perez finished the game 3-4 with two runs batted in.
The RubberDucks kept their offense going off Curve reliever Steven Jennings. Jennings gave up three runs in the third inning and again in the sixth to give Akron the 11-0 lead. Brayan Rocchio crushed a double down the right field line to score a run. Later in the inning, George Vavra hit a two-run home run to score him. Jennings allowed the six runs on five hits and four strikeouts in three innings of work.
Noe Toribio tossed two scoreless innings in relief for Altoona. He did not allow a hit and struck out one batter. Nathan Kirby entered in the eighth with two strikeouts in a scoreless frame. Logan Allen dazzled in the start for Akron, allowing three hits across six scoreless innings. He struck out six batters.
Fraizer finished the night 2-4, his tenth multi-hit game for Altoona in 22 games and 35th overall on the season. Cruz and Mitchell also had multi-hit games.
The Curve will continue their six-game series at Canal Park with the Akron RubberDucks on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. Cleveland Indians RHP Aaron Civale will make a rehab start for Akron, with Altoona's starter yet to be announced.
